Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

There was no doubt in my mind when Ubisoft took the wraps off of Rainbow Six: Siege at E3 last year that it was onto a winner. Small-scale tactical FPS combat with fully destructible environments and tense, three-minute rounds. Rainbow Six: Siege immediately looked liked the logical evolution of Counter-Strike and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.

Now, we all might be able to, as Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six: Siege will be getting a Closed Alpha very soon indeed. Open to North American and European gamers, all you'll need is a Uplay account and presumably a gaming PC capable of running Rainbow Six: Siege. Luckily we've got the Rainbow Six: Siege Alpha minimum system requirements right here.

Rainbow Six: Siege Closed Alpha Minimum System Requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz or AMD FX-8120 Octa-Core 3.1 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2GB
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7970
  • DX: DirectX 11

Rainbow Six: Siege Closed Alpha Predicted System Requirements:

  • Processor: Core i7-3770 4-Core 3.4GHz| FX-8350
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 780| Radeon R9 290X
  • RAM : 8 GB
  • OS: Win 7 (64 Bit)
  • Direct X: DX 11
  • HDD Space: 50 Gb

Now before you read too much into these, Ubisoft has said these are the minimum requirements for Rainbow Six: Siege as it stands, but these are not the final PC specs. In fact Ubisoft writes it is still working on the launch specs and these will categorically be lower than the Alpha specs.Â
The eagle-eyed among you may notice these are more or less the same as Assassin's Creed Unity's minimum requirements, albeit with slightly more forgiving graphics card demands on the Nvidia side. Rainbow Six: Siege does indeed run on the very same AnvilNext engine which powered AC Unity but from what we've seen so far its environments will be much smaller scale. There will obviously be plenty happening in them, including the fully deformable environments which could prove demanding, but nothing comparable to the thousand-strong crowds and horizon stretching views of Unity.
These requirements for R6: Siege are pretty massive though, and you'll need a high-end system to play the Alpha at all. Both CPU and RAM demands are some of the highest we've ever seen,  with Ubisoft admitting anything below a 2.6Ghz quad-core processor won't be enough. The graphics cards are also definitely towards the higher end. Anyone with a GTX 900 series card should be fine, but both the GTX 670 and the Radeon HD 7970 are still top-notch cards when it comes to performance.
